3 Disciples: Obeying Our Parents

  • by

Christian dialog between David, Joshua, and Bella

David, Joshua, and Bella are gathered at Joshua’s house, working on a group project.

David: (sighing) I’m so tired of my parents telling me what to do all the time. I’m almost 18, I should be able to make my own decisions.

Joshua: (smiling) I hear you, man. But the Bible tells us to honor and obey our parents. It’s not always easy, but it’s what God wants us to do.

Bella: (nodding) And you know what? Our parents have so much more life experience than we do. They’ve been through things that we haven’t, and they can see things that we can’t.

David: (grumbling) But what if I don’t agree with them? What if I think they’re wrong?

Joshua: (thoughtfully) Well, it’s okay to respectfully express your thoughts and feelings. But at the end of the day, we need to trust that our parents have our best interests at heart. And we need to trust that God is working through them.

Bella: (smiling) And who knows? Maybe if we listen to our parents and obey them, things will turn out even better than we could have imagined.

David: (nodding) I see your point. I’ll try to be better about obeying my parents and trusting God.

Joshua: (grinning) Good for you, man. And hey, if you ever need a reminder, just come talk to us.

Bella: (laughing) Yeah, we’ll give you a good pep talk.

The three friends continue working on their project, grateful for the reminder to obey and honor their parents.
